ZONES / QUICK START

A small setup.
A clearer screen.

The public download is coming soon. This guide describes the current Zones app.

1. Install Zones

Open the installer, drag Zones into Applications, then open it. Look for the Zones icon in your Mac’s menu bar.

2. Allow window control

Follow the setup guide to System Settings. Allow Zones under Privacy & Security → Accessibility (called Device Control and Data Access on newer macOS versions). Return to Zones when access is ready.

If the switch is on but setup still asks for access, quit Zones, remove its old entry from that permission list, and add the copy in Applications again. macOS may ask you to authenticate.

3. Choose a layout

Open Zones → Layout. Choose a preset, or customize the boxes and save your layout. With more than one display, choose the screen you want to arrange.

4. Hold Shift and drag

Hold Shift and drag the top of a window into a blue box. Let go to fit the window into it. A window must be out of full screen mode. Some apps enforce a minimum size.

Layouts and saved desks

A layout saves the spaces you can snap windows into. A saved desk remembers selected open windows and their positions. Restoring a desk matches windows that are still available; it does not reopen closed documents.

Updates and settings

Open Settings to pause Zones, control startup, customize shortcuts or check for updates. Your saved layouts and settings are kept when you update the app.
